American football quarterback Derek Dallas Carr, born on March 28, 1991, plays for the National Football League’s Las Vegas Raiders (NFL). He was chosen by the Raiders in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft while playing college football at Fresno State, where he twice earned first-team All-MWC honors.

Three-time Pro Bowler Derek Carr assisted the Raiders in making the playoffs in 2016 for the first time since 2002. In 2021, he led Las Vegas to another appearance in the postseason. After a 2022 season that fell short of expectations, he lost his starting position and decided with the Raiders’ management to leave the squad for the rest of the year.

Carr enrolled as an early-entry freshman for the spring semester at Fresno State, where his brother David also played quarterback, in 2009 in order to play spring football for the Bulldogs. As late as mid-July, then-Fresno State head coach Pat Hill stated that Carr, a true freshman, was “in the mix” for the starting quarterback position. However, just days before the start of the 2009 season in September, Hill announced that junior Ryan Colburn would replace Carr. Carr saw limited action in five games as a freshman.

Colburn remained the Bulldogs’ starting quarterback in 2010. After redshirting in 2010, Carr took over as Fresno State’s starting quarterback in the fall of 2011.
